Friends of Complex

Since opening in August, 2009, the Smith River Sports Complex has quickly expanded into a multi-sport facility hosting local, regional, as well as national events. One of the goals of the Complex is to host even more events that attract out-of-town visitors to our area. These events are very important to the local economy, but they are not always profitable for the Complex. Support from the Friends of the Complex provides us the financial assistance to pay for these events and makes that goal achievable.

In 2011, our impact on the local economy was over $800,000. In 2012, it was over $2.2 million, almost triple the amount from 2011. With even more events scheduled in 2013, we expect an even larger impact (over $4.5 million). Here are just a few of the events which the Friends of the Complex made possible:

  • We hosted the Division III USA South Men's and Women's Soccer Championships for the fourth year, adding Volleyball Championships to the weekend of events. This event brings hundreds of athletes and fans to our area.

  • We hosted Ultimate Frisbee tournaments bringing over 3 thousand athletes from all over the country to our area with an economic impact of over $1 million. We are planning similar events for 2014.

  • We went from hosting 2 lacrosse events last year to 9 events this year, with all teams attending from out of town and an estimated economic impact of $3.1 million.

Already for 2013 we have scheduled more events than ever in 8 different sports, including our newest addition, the Smith River T Ball League,.that we are managing for the 2nd year.

In the first 3 years of operation, the SRSC has recorded visitors from over 26 states and 19 countries.

We ask that you recognize the importance of this mission, and consider joining the Friends of the Complex. We have four levels of membership - Hall of Fame ($1,000+), All Stars ($500-$999), Players ($250-499) and Spectators ($100-$249). Please complete the enclosed response form and return it with your donation in the enclosed envelope. You may also respond through our website at www.SmithRiverSportsComplex.com. Hosting each event also requires a great deal of manpower, so if you are interested in helping out as a volunteer (ticket taker, concession worker, etc.) please let us know.

Each Friend of the Complex will be recognized (if desired) on a sign at the Complex and on our website. The money raised by the Friends directly impacts the ability of the Complex to bring economically valuable events to our area. Thank you for your consideration and know that we greatly appreciate your support.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 each year, which will enable us to continue to recruit and host additional events. The money raised by the Friends directly impacts the ability of the Complex to bring economically valuable events to our area.
