The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) will be hosting the Hammerhead Frenzy Youth Lacrosse tournament this Saturday, October 18th.

Playing in this tournament will be U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-19 boys teams with games beginning at 9 a.m. and running through 5 p.m. 23 teams have signed on to play in the tournament. The teams hail from Roanoke, VA, Richmond, VA, Greensboro, NC, Raleigh, NC, and Winston Salem, NC.

"Last spring's Hammerhead Frenzy went great," said John Gilman, Hammerhead Frenzy tournament director. "Players and families love the venue (SRSC) and great staff."

"We think that this area has a great group of young people waiting for the sport to get organized," said Gilman, who is also assisting the Southside Lacrosse Club start a lacrosse program at SRSC.

According to Gilman, SRSC hosts four or five lacrosse tournament each year but the local children have only been able to watch. With the help of TYLA (Triad Youth Lacrosse Association in Greensboro) we are planting the seeds and getting folks in place to lead the youth lacrosse effort for this region. The Southside Lacrosse Club (SLC) will be equally accessible for all of the area boys and girls.

"We are extremely grateful for the folks at TYLA with not only the relationship we have built hosting the Hammerhead events but now with the beginning of the SLC," said Billy Russo, Director of Operations for the SRSC. "We are thrilled to see the progress of the sport here in our region and look forward to working with TYLA to ensure its continued development."

Admission to the games will be free for all ages.
