Ultimate Frisbee returns to SRSC
"We always love coming to Martinsville because the complex is such a top-notch facility and because the town is so welcoming.," stated Michelle Ng, co-founder of Without Limits. "The trip marks the beginning of spring break for many teams and we have a number of teams coming from northern states-- they are anxious for the opportunity to play outside!"
Ultimate is a fast-paced field sport that combines elements of basketball, soccer, and football. Played with seven players on each team, what differentiates Ultimate from many other sports is that it is self-officiated, meaning there are no referees even at its highest levels. Because of this unique rule, players are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship, thus creating a very active and supportive Ultimate community.
Ng also stated that there will be 13 teams participating in the tournament. Some of the teams are coming from Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Iowa, Connecticut and Virginia.
"We are bringing in some of the best ultimate players in the United States to serve as guest coaches and mentors for teams," said Ng when asked what she enjoys most about his tournament. "I love watching these amazing players pass on their knowledge to these young teams. It is inspiring and shows what a great community we have."
"We continue to enjoy having Ultimate Tournaments at the complex. Our relationship with Michelle and Without Limits has been great," said Billy Russo, Director of Operations for SRSC. "We invite our locals to come out and watch these athletes from all over the country compete."
